I understand the pressure that people often feel to eat perfectly AND to feed their families perfectly. In the almost 20 years that I’ve been in this field, the number one thing I’ve learned is that understanding, patience, and empathy are key when helping clients sift through their history with food and weight. I’ve seen how this leads people to trying SO many diets that are filled with rules and restrictions. During these moments, my role is to provide support and guidance, helping individuals realize that they are already equipped with the necessary tools to move forward.

Growing up in central IL, I was involved in athletics from a young age. I ran cross country and track for seven years, resulting in several state medals. I continued my career at the collegiate level, where I was an all-conference athlete and qualifier for the NAIA national indoor track and field meet. I know all too well what it is like to show up every day training hard for the competition you love. I also know what it is like to face obstacles during training. Underfueling, GI issues, iron deficiency… all of those problems plagued me at some point in my career, and I saw many of my teammates suffer from nutrition-related problems as well. Most concerning was the prevalence of disordered eating I saw during my eleven years of sport. I started Midwest Performance Nutrition because I saw a need in the athletic community to prioritize non-diet, weight-inclusive nutrition education. When you work with me, I will give you the nutrition tools you need to succeed along with the mindset tools to have a healthy relationship with food. My approach is informed by Health at Every Size (HAES), Intuitive Eating, and evidence-based sports nutrition principles. I also have experience working at multiple levels of care treating eating disorder patients of all ages, though I have a special interest in working with adolescents and their families.

Feeding the body is an act of love and self-care. Nutrition advice can be confusing and difficult to interpret. Sometimes efforts to "eat healthy" can evolve into unhealthy restriction, or athletes can unintentionally under fuel for their sport. I can help you discover how to feed your body and begin to rebuild body trust to find balance and enjoyment from food. My background is in healthcare, working 20 years counseling to clients of all ages with health concerns ranging from food allergies to diabetes. In recent years my work has focused on helping teen and college age clients (many are athletes) heal from eating disorders. I work part-time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison student health medical clinic and consult one day per week with Badger athletes in the UW Athletics Sports Medicine Clinic . I have extensive experience supporting clients with anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, ARFID, RED-S, restrictive eating patterns, sports nutrition, digestive problems and many other nutrition concerns. I hold a masters degree in Clinical Nutrition, and certification as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, am trained in Motivational Interviewing and continually learning to improve my nutrition counseling knowledge and skills. We can't do this work alone. A comprehensive treatment team is essential and I collaborate closely with medical providers and behavioral therapists to help clients meet their goals. I live in Madison with my husband, two teenage children and our two dogs. I love spending time in nature and the garden, I eat something chocolate most days, and am beginning to learn to crochet. Call or email to learn more about my services. I am not on any insurance panels at this time but can provide a "super bill" or detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance plan or flex spending account.
